Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan invited to the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA)- the Women in Science and Engineering Committee (WISE) symposium- part of the “Women in STEM” conference as the WISE committee member on 4-6th June 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, and gave an invited talk entitled “Turkish Women in Science and Technology: Current Status and Empowering Strategies”
This symposium was the third symposium organized by the AASSA-WISE conducted together with the Gender Diversity committee in STEM of the Science Council of Japan and Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU) of the University of Tokyo, Japan.

At the "I. Kocatepe AR-GE Proje Pazarı" event, held for the first time on May 14-15, 2025, and hosted by Afyon Kocatepe University (AKÜ), the project titled “Graphene Oxide-Zinc Oxide Nanocomposite-Modified Electrodes and Applications for Uric Acid Detection” led by Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan as the principal investigator in collaboration with Yıldız Technical University, was selected as the second-place winner in the “AR-GE merkezi, akademisyen ve sektör temsilcileri” category of the project competition.
The project, carried out within the scope of university-university and university-industry collaboration, involved Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan and members of the nanoBiosens Lab, including PhD students Ayla Yıldırım and Meltem Maral, as well as MSc student Ayşen Bozoğlu.

TÜBA Principal Member and Council Member Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan has been elected as a Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Association).
Nominated by TÜBİTAK to represent Türkiye, Prof. Gürsan was unanimously elected as a member of the COST Scientific Committee during the COST Committee of Senior Officials meeting.
By supporting interaction and cooperation among European researchers and strengthening Europe in scientific and technical research for peaceful purposes, COST aims to bring together expert researchers conducting national research with expert scientists in their respective fields within Europe-based international thematic networks.
Founded in 1971, with Türkiye among its founding countries, COST has a total of 41 members, including: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

TÜBA Principal Member and Ege University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum Erdem Gürsan has been elected to the Scientific Advisory Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Basic Sciences Programme (IBSP).
Stating that the Scientific Advisory Board is a UNESCO program established to enhance global cooperation to strengthen national capacities in the basic sciences, TÜBA Council Member Prof. Gürsan expressed her pride in being one of the 12 scientists on the board. She said, "IBSP Scientific Board Members are appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO and also advise the Director-General. IBSP serves as a platform to foster international cooperation, facilitate the sharing of scientific knowledge, and support the development of human and institutional capacity in science and science education. By promoting scientific cooperation among countries, it aims to encourage innovation worldwide to ensure scientific progress and sustainable development."
She informed that the board will meet at least once a year to assist in the development of national, regional, and international projects related to IBSP, evaluate received project proposals, make recommendations regarding new and ongoing IBSP projects, and identify any measures that may be necessary for the successful implementation and development of the program.

Prof. Dr. Arzum Erdem Gürsan, a Principal Member of the Academy nominated by TÜBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences) within the scope of the call titled "Science-Policy Standing Committee & Task Forces" by All European Academies (ALLEA), has been elected to the ALLEA working groups.
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI in Research) Working Group, to which Ege University (EU) Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Arzum Erdem Gürsan was elected, is jointly coordinated by ALLEA and the British Academy. Building on ongoing efforts to improve fairness and transparency in European academia, the group will focus on issues such as underrepresentation, institutional bias, and the challenges faced by early and mid-career researchers.

Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum ERDEM GÜRSAN, a Principal Member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and a faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ege University, has been re-elected to the “Women in Science and Engineering” (WISE) Committee of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) for the 2025–2027 term.
Having served as a member of the committee since 2017, Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum ERDEM GÜRSAN was re-nominated by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) for this term and was subsequently elected by AASSA.
Expressing her great pleasure in continuing to contribute to the work of the committee, Prof. Dr. ERDEM GÜRSAN emphasized that achieving gender equality in science opens new avenues for research and development activities.
The AASSA-WISE Committee stands out as a significant international initiative that aims to support and promote the participation of women in science and engineering across Asia and neighboring regions.

Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum ERDEM GÜRSAN has been appointed as a member of the Presidential Council for Science, Technology and Innovation Policies, as part of the appointment decisions published in the Official Gazette dated April 10, 2025, issue number 32866.

Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan was invited to the online symposium "Women in NanoScience and Nanotechnology 2025" organized on March 8, 2025 by the Albanian Academy of Sciences' nanoALB research center in collaboration with international partners. In her presentation, Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan provided examples of support mechanisms available for women academics and researchers working at universities in Türkiye. She particularly highlighted initiatives carried out in collaboration with TÜBA and other academies, emphasizing efforts to encourage women scientists to take a more active role in their academic careers. The significance of such international events in addressing the challenges faced by women researchers and developing solutions was also underscored.

As part of International Women’s Day on March 8, the event "Inspiring Steps: Women and Science" brought together women academics’ conducting research in Turkey and at abroad with the support of TÜBİTAK Research Scholarship Programs. In her speech, Prof. Dr. K. Arzum ERDEM GÜRSAN emphasized the importance of women academics’  and researchers in the scientific community, highlighting the challenges they face. She shared her experiences gained through TÜBİTAK-supported projects both in Türkiye and at abroad. In addition, she encouraged young women scientists to follow the TÜBİTAK Research Scholarship Programs provided the opportunities starting from undergraduate studies to postdoctoral research. Prof. Dr. K. Arzum ERDEM GÜRSAN underlined that increasing the visibility of women in science would make a significant contribution to the future of country. She also emphasized the importance of teamwork and solidarity, inspiring the audience with her words.

The best social responsibility projects carried out as the part of the ‘Community Service Practices’ course at the Ege University Faculty of Pharmacy were recognized with awards. The project titled ‘Touch to the future’, supervised by Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum Erdem Gürsan, was awarded as the best third place of all. Thanks to the members of this project for their great efforts in this success.

“The 1st Extracellular Vesicles” conference was organized by TÜBA Young Academy Members and also supported by TÜBA, that was held at the METU Culture and Convention Center on 20-21 September 2024. As a scientific committee member of TURSEV 2024, Prof. Dr. Arzum Erdem Gürsan attended the meeting with her PhD students, Esma Yıldız and Seyed Majid Hosseini Aghouzi  @nanoBioSens Lab.

The 6th International Biosensors Congress (Biosensors2024) took place in Konya, at Necmettin Erbakan University, on 5-7 September.

Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan has been elected as a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Association) on April 15, 2024.
After the nomination as candidate by TÜBİTAK to represent Türkiye, Prof. Arzum Erdem Gürsan was unanimously elected as a member of the COST Scientific Committee during the meeting of the high-level representatives' committee.

TÜBA Principal Member Prof. Dr. Kadriye Arzum Erdem Gürsan represented TÜBA at The 2nd AASSA-WISE International Symposium on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEM, Subtheme: Food Systems Transformation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), organized by The National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) with the support of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) AASSA, of which she is a member.

PhD student Esma Yıldız participated in the “Future Health Technologies - Genomics Congress” on 8-9 December 2023 in Istanbul that was organized by TÜSEB. Esma contributed with an oral presentation of our recent work related to her master thesis.

Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA)-GEBİP meeting was hold in Mersin University on 17-18 th November 2023. Prof. Arzum Erdem Gürsan, the principal member of TÜBA attended to the GEBİP meeting to listen and interact with the young academy members of TÜBA.

The “5th EURASIA BIOCHEMICAL APPROACHES & TECHNOLOGIES (EBAT) CONGRESS” on 02-05 November 2023 was held in Amara Luxury Resort Hotel, in Antalya/TÜRKİYE.
